A Bluetooth Solution for Public Information Systems

    Get PDF
This paper gives insights into the opportunities offered by the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth advertising proves to be a cheap and strong tool for enriching and improving the experience offered by a public transport system, by delivering dense and essential information about topics of interest. Alongside the Java platform, new applications can be designed and implemented to make use of the already available Bluetooth technology incorporated in devices in the target public’s custody. The paper sets focus on the segment of ready to be made available content regarding general information about the routes and timetables of the vehicles integrated in a public transport system.Public Transport, Bluetooth, Java, Mobile Device

Does the geographic location influence takeovers?

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to examine whether there is an impact of geographical proximity, between the acquirer and the target company of a takeover process, on the success of the transaction. In order to do this we analysed a complete database of all the takeover bids between 2000 and 2014 on the Romanian capital market. The evidence reveals that not only is the geographical proximity important for the success of the transaction, but that also takeovers can occur across distant locations if the target firm has a long history of its activity that can be monitored by the acquiring companies. We have also tested if there are NUTS regions characteristics that can influence the decisionmaking, but the results were inconclusive

Endoluminal Ultrasonography of the Rectum and the Anal Canal

    Get PDF
Ultrasonography of the anal canal, the rectum and the surrounding tissues using intraluminal transducers with transanal/rectal imaging provides high-resolution imaging with clearly distinguishable tissue‐dependent echo signals. Endorectal ultrasonography depicts rectal wall layers and adjuvant structures with a high degree of precision. Anal endosonography is carried out to examine the sphincter muscles and the pelvic floor

Financial Investment Management: Testing the Market Model on the Romanian Capital Market during the Post Financial Crisis

    Get PDF
This article presents an analysis of the decision of investing in the capital market in Romania during 2009-2010, in the context of overcoming the global financial crisis. In the first part of the paper, we have made a brief presentation of the simplified model of market analysis introduced in the specialized literature by William Sharpe, the respective model representing the starting point in our study. The purpose of the present study is to emphasize how the evolutions of the financial securities rates listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange could be explained based on the evolution of BET Romanian capital market index. Although the study over this phenomenon has begun in the middle of the last century, every day new studies appear that are either coming in addition to the already existing ones or are bringing a new approach regarding the financial theory. The novelty of the present study conducted by us resides in the highlighting of the evolutions of the financial securities rates during July 2009 – December 2010 periods. The second part of the paper presents the results of a study conducted on the Romanian capital market, emphasizing the correlations between the most important securities on the Romanian capital market, as parts of BET index and market index. The aim is to check whether during this period the evolution of the financial securities’ return can be explained more or less by the return of the capital market.financial market model, return of financial securities, security-market correlation.

Verification problems for timed and probabilistic extensions of Petri Nets

In the first part of the thesis, we prove the decidability (and PSPACE-completeness) of the universal safety property on a timed extension of Petri Nets, called Timed Petri Nets. Every token has a real-valued clock (a.k.a. age), and transition firing is constrained by the clock values that have integer bounds (using strict and non-strict inequalities). The newly created tokens can either inherit the age from an input token of the transition or it can be reset to zero. In the second part of the thesis, we refer to systems with controlled behaviour that are probabilistic extensions of VASS and One-Counter Automata. Firstly, we consider infinite state Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) that are induced by probabilistic extensions of VASS, called VASS-MDPs. We show that most of the qualitative problems for general VASS-MDPs are undecidable, and consider a monotone subclass in which only the controller can change the counter values, called 1-VASS-MDPs. In particular, we show that limit-sure control state reachability for 1-VASS-MDPs is decidable, i.e., checking whether one can reach a set of control states with probability arbitrarily close to 1. Unlike for finite state MDPs, the control state reachability property may hold limit surely (i.e. using an infinite family of strategies, each of which achieving the objective with probability ≥ 1-e, for every e > 0), but not almost surely (i.e. with probability 1). Secondly, we consider infinite state MDPs that are induced by probabilistic extensions of One-Counter Automata, called One-Counter Markov Decision Processes (OC-MDPs). We show that the almost-sure {1;2;3}-Parity problem for OC-MDPs is at least as hard as the limit-sure selective termination problem for OC-MDPs, in which one would like to reach a particular set of control states and counter value zero with probability arbitrarily close to 1

    Total order in opportunistic networks

    Get PDF
Opportunistic network applications are usually assumed to work only with unordered immutable messages, like photos, videos, or music files, while applications that depend on ordered or mutable messages, like chat or shared contents editing applications, are ignored. In this paper, we examine how total ordering can be achieved in an opportunistic network. By leveraging on existing dissemination and causal order algorithms, we propose a commutative replicated data type algorithm on the basis of Logoot for achieving total order without using tombstones in opportunistic networks where message delivery is not guaranteed by the routing layer. Our algorithm is designed to use the nature of the opportunistic network to reduce the metadata size compared to the original Logoot, and even to achieve in some cases higher hit rates compared to the dissemination algorithms when no order is enforced. Finally, we present the results of the experiments for the new algorithm by using an opportunistic network emulator, mobility traces, and Wikipedia pages.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

IFRS Adoption in Romania: The Effects upon Financial Information and its Relevance

    Get PDF
AbstractStarting from 2012, listed Romanian entities have to report their individual financial statements using International Financial Reporting Standards. This study is focusedon presenting the differences between Romanian Accounting Standards and IFRS when financial information is analysed. The research is conducted upon the companies that are listed on BSE and tries to demonstrate if statistically any significance in mean, median and variance was observed among several accounting measures and financial ratios. An analysis upon the entire market and its subsamples, considering companies specialisation, was conducted. The results reveal that no statistically significant differences at median and mean level were observed. The relevance could be identified at variance variation considering the solvency ratio and the return on equity one. Regarding the subsample analysis, the results are mixt

Similarities between the Acquirer and the Target Company in Successful Takeover Bid Offers

    Get PDF
AbstractIn order to narrow the high competition between firms that operates in the same industry, mergers and acquisitions (M&As) transactions are frequently encountered in Romania. In many M&As can be found some similarities between the acquirer and the target company. The study analyze how a successful takeover bid offer is influenced by similarities regarding the age, the geographical position, the industry or ownership between the acquirer and the target company. The results point out that some variables have an important influence on the successful takeover bid, while others are not significant in the acquirer's point of view
